My first digital drawing

(and the future of Happy Blind Dog)

I am so excited to start a new path of this journey: learning to create my own digital illustrations!

When I started this project, I had a clear vision of what Happy Blind Dog could be. I wrote the story and used a mix of Canva (for the backgrounds, trees, squirrels) and Leonardo AI (for the image of Happy). I am pleased with the end result, I just couldn’t shake a nagging feeling that I wanted to be the one bringing these characters to life with my own hands.

Overcoming the art obstacle

Unfortunately, I never studied graphic design or art, so this felt like a massive mountain standing in my way. As I started looking into it more however, I realised that maybe…just maybe…I could learn this skill.

So, I found a decent refurbished iPad and downloaded Procreate which is absolutely full of illustration tools and colours. And then I found Art with Flo’s ‘How to Draw’ series.

My first illustration: ‘Love Birds’

I have just completed my very first illustration using the tutorial for ‘Love Birds’ and I am so incredibly proud of the result!

There’s still a ways to go, but I can’t wait to keep learning so I can bring Happy to life in my own way in the future.
