Practising Animal Illustration

I’ve been focusing my digital illustration practice on animals this past week. I’m hoping to learn some techniques that I can use to create the new version of Happy.

I let go of the need to be perfect, and one sunny day, I sat outside in the garden and sketched a dog enjoying the sun. I’m fairly happy with the way it turned out. I particularly like the little flowers and the hearts. I felt so calm and content while drawing this, and I feel like the colours of this final picture do reflect that feeling.

I also decided to do another Art with Flo tutorial. I’m so glad I did! I learned some great paint-style techniques which I think worked out great for the fur of this fox. I could see Happy being created using a similar technique.

I’m pleased with the progress so far and I’ll continue to work on different techniques.
